In the course of the average 9-5 Dilbert like work days, there is one cliche
that still rings true...Knowledge is power. In this lifelong quest for
knowledge(okay not that long but I do read a lot) I'd like to tell you about
some books that I have discovered that seem to help. Of course if you feel
so inclined, please order from this site. If you have any suggestions please

The
7 Habits of Highly Effective People is a great book that has received
much critical praise. Beyond that, it is a book that covers balance. The
first section goes right in the art of proactivity, something most of us
need to do better in business and in life. While the word proactivity
is now fairly common in management literature, it is a word that you won't
find in most dictionaries. It means more than merely
taking initiative. It means that as human beings, we are responsible
for our own lives.
For those of us who have ever had to make a career of sales, or in the days of nine or ten jobs before retiring--getting an interview a great book by Michael Boylan is The Power to Get In. We all have to sell something to someone at sometime.Getting your foot in the door is the first step. While some of it is common sense, hearing it all again in this context is extremely helpful and michael does a good job doing it.

If you want to hear it from a guy who has been there
and is probably powered the chips in your computer,
Only
the Paranoid Survive by Andrew S. Grove, the president of Intel, is one
to consider.
Soft Selling in a Hard World is a book that talks about the"selling game". The reason that I like it is that it seems to go against a lot of the so called conventional wisdom of selling. I don't put much faith in the Zig Ziglar hard sell style of sales. The book basically goes against the pushy sales style for the soft-sell service style approach. I also like it for the simple reason it was a gift from the president of the company I work for.
A book that has been one of my favorite is a book called Secrets of Power Persuasion. This personally has helped more than anything with public speaking. I don't have to do it often, but when I must, it is now with a lot less of those butterflies. There are other persuasion ideas, some obvious, some very insightful that help even in the office politics game.
